Chartway FCU Awards Scholarships to Ten Students

Chartway Federal Credit Union, the locally based, billion-dollar financial institution that has been helping its members realize their dreams for 50 years, has named ten students as the recipients of college scholarships. The winners are comprised of five Hampton Roads-area high school and college students, two North Carolina high school and college students, two Texas high school and college students and one Ohio college student.

Now in its 20th year, the credit union’s Directors’ Memorial Scholarship program annually awards scholarships to deserving student members pursuing graduate or undergraduate degrees. This year’s recipients include:

  • Kristine Adriano (VA) – plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Tidewater Community College

  • Andrew Crossman (VA) – is currently studying Computer Science at Old Dominion University

  • Kyle Farmer (NC)  – plans to study Marine Biology at the University of North Carolina

  • Caitlin Gilroy (NC) – is currently studying Anthropology/Religion at the University of North Carolina

  • Roger Marks, Jr. (OH) – is currently studying Psychology at Kaplan University

  • Yekaterina Mutilin (VA) – plans to study Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University

  • Diana Nicholson (VA)  – plans to study Art/Visual Studies at Norfolk State University

  • Gabrielle O’Garro (TX) –  plans to study Veterinary Medicine at Concordia University

  • Sanyika Scott (TX) – is currently studying Psychology at Clark Atlanta University

  • Christa Wentt (VA) – plans to study Biology at John Hopkins University

Recipients were selected on the basis of need, activities, academic performance, an essay and letter of reference.

The Directors’ Memorial Scholarship program was created in 1989 by the Chartway Board of Directors in recognition of the credit union’s 30 years of success. Since the program’s inception, Chartway has given more than $115,500 in student scholarships to 86 of its deserving student members.
